An end-of-year funfair in Ibadan for children ended in tragedy after a stampede there reportedly killed more than 30 people, who were mostly children.

The program is reported to have been organized by Women in Need of Guidance and Support, led by former Ile-Ife Queen Naomi Silekunola, an ex-wife of Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi, while it also promises to provide N5,000 and free food to 5,000 children.

The problem started at the locked gate of Islamic High School, Basorun, when a massive crowd attempted to force their way into the venue, leading to trampling and fatalities.

Victims who sustained injury and lost their lives there were immediately rushed to hospitals that include UCH and Molly Specialist Hospital.

The Oyo State Governor, HE Seyi Makinde, painfully referred to the occurrence as a disaster. Security outfits, including police and emergency responders, were all at the littered Islamic High School, Basorun.
