Simi Advocates for Women’s Financial Independence

Nigerian R&B star and actress Simi has listed the key importance of women’s financial independence, appealing to parents to train their daughters to be people who understand the value of self-sufficiency.

Simi appealed to women to take charge of their financial futures in a new video she uploaded on her TikTok account.

She stated, “Please do not raise your daughters to think that when they grow up, all they have to do is rely on someone they don’t have to care for themselves. When someone is spoiling you, it shouldn’t be because you cannot spoil yourself. As they are spoiling you, you too are spoiling them, and let them know that you’re standing strong.”

Simi emphasized the confidence that self-sufficiency brings to women, pointing out that it helps protect them.

“There is security in knowing that you have got yourself. A woman’s economic power is in protecting herself, fending for herself, and being able to acknowledge that she is a complete person confidently. You deserve good things; you need to occupy space,” she continued.

Simi also talked about her upbringing and the support that she gets, reflecting on her privilege.

“I admit that I say this from a place of privilege. I grew up among people who believed in me, pushed me, and encouraged me. I had chances that took me from here to here, but some women had to work with less,” she explained.

Simi also urged society to step in and support deserving women who lack opportunities, appealing, “Less love, less faith, less kindness, and opportunities, and that’s where we as a society have to step in. And when you can give a deserving woman an opportunity, please give it to her.”
